Convert BMP to JPG

Drop your BMP files and get JPG files back, made in your own browser: nothing is uploaded and there is no daily limit. Other pictures and formats work here too.

Convert to

Lower makes a smaller file; 80–90 looks the same as the original to most eyes.

Need a file under a set size, such as 100 KB? Compress to KB

A JPG has no transparency, so the clear parts of a PNG or WebP get this colour instead of turning black.

Leave empty to keep each photo's own size in pixels. A photo is only ever made smaller, never larger.

About BMP and JPG

BMP
BMP is the old Windows format that stores every pixel as it is, with no compression, so a photo can be ten times the size of a JPG. Few websites or forms take it; a JPG makes it small enough to send.
JPG
JPG (also JPEG) is the photo format every phone, computer, website and form opens. It keeps files small by leaving out detail the eye hardly sees, so it suits photos rather than text or logos, and it has no transparency.

How it works

  1. Choose the format to convert to: JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF.
  2. Set the quality, and for a JPG the colour under any transparent parts.
  3. Choose, drop or paste one photo or many; each is converted at once, with its size before and after.
  4. Download each file, or all of them as one ZIP. Change a setting and every photo is converted again.

Why this one

Nothing is uploaded
Other converters send your photos to their servers and keep them there for hours. Here your own browser converts them, so they never leave your device.
No limit
There is no daily count, no queue and no file cap to pay to lift: convert 5 photos or 500.
Upright and private
A phone photo is turned the way it was taken, and the new file carries none of the photo's hidden details: not the camera, not the date, not the place it was taken.
Transparency kept or filled
PNG, WebP and AVIF keep the clear parts clear. A JPG cannot, so you choose the colour that goes under them instead of a black box.

Questions

How do I convert BMP to JPG?

Choose JPG, then drop the BMP files here. Each becomes a JPG at once; download them one by one or as a ZIP.

How much smaller is a BMP as a JPG?

A BMP stores every pixel with no compression, so a photo as a JPG at quality 80–90 is often ten times smaller or more, with no difference the eye sees.

Which format should I choose?

JPG for photos that must open anywhere; PNG for screenshots, logos and anything with transparency; WebP or AVIF for the smallest files on a website. AVIF is smaller still, but older programs may not open it.

Is there a limit on how many photos?

No. The work happens in your browser, so the only limit is your device's memory; a phone takes longer over a large batch.

Why did my file get bigger?

A PNG keeps every pixel, so a photo converted to PNG is often several times its JPG size. For a smaller file choose JPG, WebP or AVIF and a lower quality.

Does it keep the camera details and the location?

No. The new file holds the picture only: the camera, the date and the place it was taken are left out. The photo is turned upright first, so it does not come out sideways.

Can it open HEIC photos from an iPhone?

Yes, in Safari on a Mac, an iPhone or an iPad, and in Chrome or Edge on a device whose graphics chip plays HEVC video (the format inside a HEIC), as most computers and phones of recent years do; they convert like any other photo, the right way up. Where a browser cannot, the file is named as one it cannot open: use Safari there, or set the iPhone to save JPG (Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible).

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Everything happens inside your browser; nothing is sent to us or anyone.
